Music I been on Lately
Woke up this morning ready to dig instead of getting dressed to go to the beach. Sometimes the morning is when the frenzy has got to happen, and I even had put in my IEMs so you know I was glued to the sofa for much longer than I actually had time for.
My beloved IEMs
I really vacillate between musical moods in a manner thats quite jarring even to me sometimes. But this morning I could smell the fat kicks that were to be heard and of course it was time to log onto Discogs and get some techno straight to the brain. I am just going to share some tracks, artists, whatever that I’ve been listening to. That’s OK. You are fine with that.
Decoder
Honestly saved a lot of shit from Decoder today. He is a Techno producer from Dallas which I think is kind of awesome as I’ve been specifically searching for producers from the states. Tracks “Visionary” and “Falling Flat” are the two that I shelved. “Visionary” really reminds me of “Plasma” by Jeroen Search with the tribal drums but this latter track runs much faster and is more densely populated, seems like it could be a nice companion. There is a strumming sort of synth that creates an elastic tension that I almost imagine as this shrinking and growing rubber ball. “Falling Flat"is more of a submerged lethargic intermediary track.
Jay York
Off of the same Distance EP that Decoder’s Falling Flat is on is Jay York’s “Untouched”. My god I love this. I’m in dark wet cave and there is a giant serpent somewhere out in the dark that I can’t make out but we are chill and he plays his music for me. Jay York is New York based which is exciting, I’ve seen his name on bills before but was too ignorant to feel any sort of way about it. Him & Decoder seem to be collaborating a lot at the moment is exciting.
They have a collaborative EP titled Idols which is mmm so good with “Merk” and “Marching” being the standouts for me. “Merk” is a sexy little hard dancing moment which feels a bit trancey in its melody almost like a song from a Tekken soundtrack and “Marching” is much more serious eschewing hot synth lines for much more atonal noisy ambience. The track is not quite sparse but the kick is deep and hard hitting.
Those were the two producers that I was very excited to discover. Can’t wait to dig deeper into their discographies and the labels that they have released on and I am eager to see how my relationship with their tracks evolves.
